Professional Experiences

Interning for Project Access

My experience with Project Access strengthened my skills as a student of health education. Many of my responsibilities were appropriate for health education professionals and included biweekly health education presentations among the residents. I felt that my assignments were important to the community of Golden West Towers. The seniors residents were very active with the activities and educational programs. They prioritized their health and emphasized the importance of the programs that were held by Project Access. My academic training played a key role in how I was able to efficiently provide health education information during presentations. I used what I learned from the assignments I’ve done in class on certain health topics through presentations or developing educational programs.

Brain Awareness Program

This program included a 15-minute lecture on the importance of cognitive health and also a 30-minute activity of cognitive worksheets. Our audience were mostly consisted of Asian older adults. We discussed the topic of brain diseases that affect our target population and how to prevent them. Participants were also able to ask questions towards the end of the presentation and share their methods of improving their brain health. Our program ended with a cognitive worksheet activity and a prize to whoever finished the worksheet first.
